GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE Featured in Philadelphia JEWISH EXPONENT Article (10/28/2008)

GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE was recently featured in an article appearing in Philadelphias Jewish Exponent newspaper. The column focuses on the Sandwich Generation (people who care for their children as well as for their parents) within the Jewish community. In "Sandwich Moms Feel Big Squeeze" (October 16th 2008) a woman who cares for her grandmother is profiled. Caring for her family and her grandmother was an intense juggling act and Teri Touchstone decided to seek professional help. She contacted the Main Line (PA) office of GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE where a Caregiver was referred, and subsequently Teri's harried life was afforded peace of mind and professional support from Gladys T the very attentive Caregiver. When Gladys came on board, I was able to step back, and just be a granddaughter, says Touchstone. The article also noted that with nearly one in four Jews over the age of sixty and a declining Jewish birthrate-the result is a smaller pool of (family) caregivers. Fiona Middleton, VP of GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE, whose corporate offices are located in Erdenheim, PA noted: " Families living the Sandwich Generation scenario need a break for an afternoon, or round-the-clock live-in care, such as what Touchstone secured for her grandmother (through GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE)."

July Is Sandwich Generation Month (07/01/2007)

ERDENHEIM, Pennsylvania -- July is now Sandwich Generation Month, a month of awareness to commemorate and celebrate the dedication, patience and caring of adults who are part of the Sandwich Generation--those caring for their children as well as their own aging parents. Sandwich Generation Month is officially registered within the National Special Events Registry as an annual national observation, occurring each July 1-31. Events will be held throughout the United States in an upcoming annual commemoration of the national observation, as part of most of which the public is invited to participate in scheduled events and celebration.

"Sandwich Generation Month will bring the community and families together to heighten awareness of the special needs of the Sandwich Generation, as well as to spotlight community support available to those working so hard to maintain multi-generational families," says Fiona Middleton, Vice President of GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE. "We will also celebrate the hard work, compassion, patience and dedication of the Sandwich Generation members, those actively providing care for both children and their aging parents."

All local events are part of commemorations across the United States coordinated by Sandwich Generation Month and sponsored by GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE (see www.GriswoldSpecialCare.com for more information about GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE).

According to the Pew Research Center, just over 1 of every 8 Americans aged 40 to 60 is both raising a child and caring for a parent, in addition to between 7 to 10 million adults caring for their aging parents from a long distance. US Census Bureau statistics indicate that the number of older Americans aged 65 or older will double by the year 2030, to over 70 million.

"Despite the everyday struggles and exhaustion associated with caring for children under age 21 and aging parents, members of the Sandwich Generation have gracefully continued their care of those closest to them," says Middleton. "Many of these family caregivers are completely unaware of the support and options available to them, whether they need a break for hours or 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. It is time for communities to work together to aid in support and care of our aging population."

Sandwich Generation Month originated from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, our own nation's city of Independence. The commemoration is actively growing and catching on in communities coast-to-coast. Visit www.SandwichGenerationMonth.com for more information, or call the Corporate Office of GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE, at 1-888-777-7630. Additional information about resources available to aid members of the Sandwich Generation is also available through the Corporate Office of GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE.

GSC Celebrates 25th Silver Anniversary (05/01/2007)

ERDENHEIM, Pennsylvania -- On April 27, 2007, GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE celebrated its anniversary with events, including seminars reinforcing continued practice of GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE's Mission: To maintain the dignity, comfort, safety, independence, well-being, and happiness of each Client by referring the highest quality professional Caregivers at an affordable cost to the Client.

One presentation was by inspirational speaker Bill Rose of Mind Power Unlimited, who guided GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE Directors from all 17 U.S. States through a series of exercises and activities on the topics of Memory and Emotional Intelligence. Also, Dr. Griswold was provided with a Letter of Congratulations by Senator Arlen Specter, as presented by a designee from his office. Further, Mayor John Street of Philadelphia commended Dr. Griswold through a special plaque that included a 3-dimensional depiction of the Liberty Bell.

Dr. Jean Griswold founded GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE in Erdenheim, PA in 1982. During the early eighties, few options existed for older persons and those living with a disability. Concerned family or friends could either hire a private caregiver, or place family members in a local nursing home or other facility. Most home care services focused on skilled care, provided by costly nurses.

Founded to assist homebound individuals through long and lonely nights, Overnight Sitting Service, as it was originally known, soon began to refer Caregivers to assist with companionship, homemaking, and personal care through hourly, 24 hour, and even live-in service. From its earliest beginnings, GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE referred Caregivers to assist not only the older person to remain safe and cared for in his or her own homes, but also younger individuals living with chronic illnesses as Multiple Sclerosis, and ALS, as well as persons recovering from surgery or illness.

In establishing GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE, Jean Griswold revolutionized the home care industry. Rather than focus upon skilled services provided by nurses, she chose to refer professional Caregivers to perform tasks traditionally done by family members. By mandating that every Caregiver undergo stringent background checks and behavioral-based interviews, and ensuring that the Caregivers are paid competitive wages, she attracted and retained high caliber, dedicated individuals. Additionally, she chose to keep rates well below the average home care agency, ensuring high quality care at the most affordable cost.

Today, GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE is a national leader in the home care industry with 90 offices in 17 states: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Virginia, as well as operations in South Korea and Mexico. Fiona Middleton, M.S.M. of the corporate office of GRISWOLD SPECIAL CARE is available to answer any questions or for interview, at 1-888-777-7630.
